SWISS FILMFESTIVAL at BISHKEK,
Kyrgyzstan is often described as «Switzerland of Central Asia», maybe this fact can explain at least in part the great interest that Swiss movies triggered in Kyrgyzstan. In order to supply the Kyrgyz audience with a maximum variety of impressions about the other Switzerland our programme covered a lot of different aspects: Apart from movies situated in rural contexts there were also movies with urban settings, movies with a classical story telling plot were complemented with films of somewhat more experimental nature, beside artistic movies we showed documentaries about artists, movies for adults and movies for children, full-length movies and short movies. |

KADASH, 2000 |

The Swiss Jazz Formation Kadash and the singer Saadet Türköz performed together with local bands in various cities of Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek, Cholpon-Ata, Osh). The Bishkek concert took place with participation of the Kyrgyz group Jibek Jolu, who had visited Switzerland the year before as a result of the friendships that developed out of the exchange of musicians from the two countries. In Osh we were invited to the PEACE AND RESPECT festival which was organised by an NGO called Kyrgyz Style from Bishkek together with local partners for the 3000th jubilee of the town of Osh. Especially the musicians joy of improvisation were enthousiastically received by the audience. |
